Nestled among the hills of Livermore Valley Wine Country, you will find a long driveway lined with tall palm trees leading to the Palm Event Center in the Vineyard. This grand entrance offers more than just a path to the venue; it symbolically represents love, victory, and enduring beauty.
THE HISTORY
The palm trees were planted years ago in front of Ruby Hill Winery. Ruby Hill Winery was begun in the late 1880’s as one of the first wineries in Livermore Valley. Thus, the palm trees seen at the Palm Event Center and modern-day Rubino Estates Winery have a long history with the valley, standing tall over the vineyards.
THE SIGNIFICANCE OF PALM TREES
Besides providing a lovely setting for our venue, palm trees have a rich history of symbolism that unexpectedly ties into weddings.

Victory & Triumph
Historically, palm branches were awarded to victorious athletes in ancient Greece and Rome, symbolizing success and achievement. For couples, palms represent the victory of finding each other and their success in overcoming life’s obstacles to be together.
Peace & Tranquility
Palm trees are also seen as symbols of peace. Many cultures have historically used palm fronds as a gesture of peace or white flag in negotiations. For weddings, this symbolism of peace takes on a connotation of a peaceful and harmonious beginning of a couple’s life together. It represents a serene foundation upon which they can build their future, highlighting the tranquility and calm that comes with finding one’s life partner.
Prosperity
Seen as symbols of abundance (due to their abundant fruit of dates and coconuts and lush leaves) palms are often seen as symbols of prosperity and the ability to sustain life. This is a welcoming symbol for couples who wish to start their lives together in abundance.
Eternal Life
Lastly, palm trees are evergreen and do not shed their leaves seasonally. Throughout history, religions and cultures have reinforced this idea that palms are tied to immortality. This ties nicely with couples who are making an everlasting commitment to each other. It underscores the depth of the marital bond as something enduring and unending.

THE PERFECT SYMBOLS
As our palms stand as witnesses to countless weddings, we like to think of them as lucky charms for all couples who marry on our grounds. Originally symbols of a 19th century winery, they now have become the perfect ornamentation to a wedding venue where love is celebrated.
